Outwitting a final table that included veteran poker pro Casey Kastle, 2009 Aussie Millions High Roller champion David Steicke and Asian Poker Tour Poker Pack superstar J.C. Tran, 23 year-old Frenchman Adrien Allain won the 2009 APT Macau Main event on August 23rd, 2009. The native from Rennes, France said that he is very happy with his win. He said that he qualified for APT Macau through a $5 lottery tournament on PKR and ended up beating some of the best players in the world.
The win was worth $391,547, surpassing the recently turned pro's career best cash in of $8,000. When play started at the StarWorld Hotel and Casino 12:00 noon Macau time, Kastle was almost immediately the first one to hit the rail, busting out on the 3rd hand of his 3rd consecutive APT final table appearance.
Winifred Yu, who was in the former Portuguese colony working as a member of the crew for the Chinese Film "Poker King" being shot during the tournament, hit the rail next, followed by Christer Hallberg, Michael Woo and Chris Chau. Steicke, who added to his improving poker resume by taking down the Poker Pack High Rollers event earlier in the event, was the next one to go home, leaving Allain in a three-handed showdown with Inwook Choi and J.C. Tran.
Choi then accomplished a straight to send the short stack Tran home and get himself in the heads-up showdown. Eventually, Choi got all of his chips in the middle with ace-queen dominating Allain's ace-3 but the French poker pro achieved a miraculous three to grab the win. Tran said that it is very disappointing but he is happy for Allain. There were a total of 326 participants at the APT Macau main event with a total cash pool of HK$10,919,040.
