On May 9th, 2008, Hollywood Actor Don Cheadle and Poker Champion Annie Duke gathered a group of celebrities to the Inland location for a fundraiser for the refugees in Darfur. Cheadle and Duke held a series of poker events called the "Ante Up for Africa" at the San Manuel Bingo and Indian Casino facility.
The main benefactor for the event is the "Not on Our Watch" a non-profit organization founded by Cheadle and his Ocean's 11 co-stars Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. Duke also held a poker boot camp at the casino for those individuals that want to improve their poker game. Cheadle said that what is happening in Darfur is one of the greatest humanitarian problems that are happening today and all of us must do something to help.
Some of the participants in the tournament include LA Dodgers Scott Proctor, Gary Bennett and James Loney, professional football player Roland Williams, Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains, Anthrax band member Scott Ian, professional poker players like Howard Lederer, Phil Laak, Andy Bloch and Chris Ferguson. Even the executive producer of Celebrity Poker Showdown Joshua Molina and motocross racer Jimmy Button attended the event.
Willie Garson from the hit series "Sex and the City" hosted the event. The San Manuel Casino donated $500,000 for the Darfur refugees. The next "Ante Up for Africa" event will take place on July 2nd, 2008 at the Rio in Las Vegas, Nevada.
