While he could be usually found playing high-stakes online poker cash games, Prahlad Friedman disappeared for quite sometime from poker's live-poker event scene after achieving a good run in the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event. He returned in a big way at the final table of the WPT Legends of Poker on August 27th, 2009, winning the title and taking home more than $1 million in cash prize. Friedman said that he is just very happy with his performance.
Friedman's successful return to live poker events actually started this summer with another good run at the 2009 WSOP Main Event, where he finished in 64th place. He said that the experience, together with his 20th place finish in 2006, a World Series of Poker bracelet in 2003, finishing in 2nd place at the WSOPC Rincon in 2005 and a deep run in the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star in 2004 certainly help him in the tournament.
2009 WSOP Main Event November Niner member Kevin Schaffel proved that the slot he secured at the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event final table this summer was no luck, entering the final table on August 26th, 2009 with the overall chip lead. Despite the sting of taking home a total of $471,670 for finishing in 2nd place instead of the $1,009,000 for the 1st place, Schaffel said that the experience will help him do well in the 2009 WSOP Main Event final table in November 7th, 2009.
Todd Terry came into the Legends of Poker final table behind Schaffel but could only manage to finish in 3rd place. Full Tilt poker pro Toto Leonidas bowed out of 4th place. In just the 1st card hand of the final table, Sam Stein, who finished in 9th place at the WPT Bellagio Cup one month ago, sent home 2-time WSOP Stud final table finalist Mike Krescanko with a big runner-runner flush suckout.
Krescanko bowed out of 6th place but Stein was the next to go grabbing 5th place. With a World Poker Tour title under hi s belt now, Friedman said that he intends to participate in more poker tournaments now more than ever.
