On December 17th, 2007, there is only a week left to qualify for the PartyPoker Irish Online Poker Championship, the European continent's first important poker event of 2008. The main $240 weekly satellite on PartyPoker has been moved from Tuesday to Sunday as the Christmas season approaches and December 23rd, 2007 is the last day to get a place this way. Lower buy-in cost tournaments are also available where the entry to the main satellite event is available every week.
For every twenty-five participants to the main satellite, PartyPoker will give away one slot. The Qualifications for the $5,000 package begins at $3. The event will be held at the Radisson Hotel and Spa in Galway, Ireland beginning on January 4th, 2008. The event will end on January 6th, 2008.
A spokesperson for PartyPoker said that there is a distinctive pattern that is showing in the tournament. The player will be divided into three groups: The Irish players, the International players and the International poker pros.
Poker pros Marcel Luske, Jon Kalmar and Robert Williamson III have recently secure their places for Galway and are expected to be among the contenders for the title. One player to watch out for is 22 year-old James McManus from Dublin. He recently won the bad bead Jackpot worth $52,000.
The 2,000 euros (nine percent withheld) buy-in cost is predicted to produce a cash pool of 500,000 euros to 1,000,000 euros and the coverage of the event will be recorded for six hour long broadcast on RTE. Some of the poker pros that will attend the event are Mike Sexton, 1999 WSOP Main Event Winner Noel Furlong, WSOP bracelet winners Ciaran O'Leary and Michael Keiner, Padraig Parkinson, Scott Gray, Bruno Fitoussi, Jan Sørensen, Roy Brindley, Mad Marty Wilson, Katharine Hartree, Jeff Duvall, Alan Vinson, Steve Wong, Rory Liffey and Ben Vinson. About 500 qualifying satellite events are being held in pubs and clubs all over Ireland.
